IWC Pilot Mark XII

When it comes to true aviation heritage, few pilot’s watches can trace their roots back over nearly 80 years. The IWC Pilot Mark XI was first developed in 1948 for the British Royal Air Force and soon became popular with both airmen and civilians who appreciated the straightforward design and outstanding legibility. 
 
This Mark XII was later introduced in 1994, retaining that clean aesthetic while adding the benefit of an automatic movement.
 
The 36mm steel case is in keeping with those early vintage watches, and wears well on the wrist, while a screw-down crown offers modern-day versatility. The simple brushed finish reinforces its utilitarian roots, and while this example is paired with an IWC black leather strap, this watch would suit any variety of straps. 
 
The black dial, although simple, feels familiar with its bold Arabic numerals and distinctive cream-coloured triangle at 12 o’clock. A discreet date window at 3 o'clock adds useful functionality without disturbing the clean, symmetrical layout.
 
Powering the Mark XII is IWC's calibre 884/2 automatic movement, based on the highly regarded Jaeger-LeCoultre 889/2. Smooth, reliable and beautifully engineered, it offers approximately 40 hours of power reserve and is considered one of the highlights of this reference. 
 
We are pleased to present this late 1990s example in excellent pre-owned condition. The movement has recently benefitted from a full overhaul, and as such, the watch is covered by a 12-month warranty for additional peace of mind. Also supplied is a useful IWC travel case. 
 
Produced for only a few years, the Mark XII it has become a firm favourite among collectors who appreciate understated design and exceptional engineering. The model is proof that a great a great pilot's watch doesn't need to be oversized or overcomplicated and would suite a collector looking for an understated everyday watch with genuine heritage.
