Event Guidelines

Before you arrive

Please only bring watches you're comfortable having at the event. You remain responsible for your watches and personal belongings throughout the afternoon, so please don't leave valuables unattended.

If you're bringing a watch to sell or swap, it's useful to have the following information to hand:

• Reference and serial number, where appropriate

• Details of any service history

• Information about any known faults, damage, restoration or replacement parts

• Details of what is included with the watch, such as box, papers or additional straps

You're welcome to bring the original box and paperwork, although you may prefer to leave them at home. If so, photographs can be useful for prospective buyers.

A clean watch is always a good idea, so please feel free to give it a wipe or wash ahead of the event.

Buying, selling and swapping

The idea is to give collectors the opportunity to deal directly with one another in a friendly and secure environment.

WCS is organising and facilitating the event, but is not a party to transactions between guests. Any sale or swap is agreed directly between the buyer and seller, and both parties are responsible for agreeing the terms of their transaction.

If you're buying a watch, take your time and inspect it carefully before agreeing to a purchase. You should satisfy yourself as to its condition, authenticity, provenance and operation, and ask any questions you have before completing the transaction.

If you're selling, please be open and transparent about anything you know about the watch that could be relevant to a prospective buyer, including faults, damage, restoration, replacement parts and service history.

The same applies to swaps. Both parties should agree exactly what is being exchanged, including any cash adjustment, before handing anything over.

There is no obligation to complete a transaction on the day, and nobody should feel pressured to buy, sell or swap. You can always swap details and get back in touch at a later date.

WCS and the watchmaker

Sam and the WCS team will be around throughout the afternoon to offer help and advice, and our watchmaker will be available for testing, checks and minor adjustments where possible.

We're happy to help, but any advice, opinion or check provided by WCS or the watchmaker is guidance only. Buyers and sellers remain responsible for making their own decisions, and WCS and the watchmaker accept no responsibility for any subsequent transaction or dispute.

In some circumstances, WCS may be able to assist with a transaction or facilitate payment. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.

Payment

Payment arrangements are agreed directly between the buyer and seller.

Bank transfer and cash are both options, and buyers and sellers should agree their preferred payment method before completing a transaction.

If paying by bank transfer, sellers should make sure that the funds have actually arrived in their account before handing over the watch. Please don't rely solely on a screenshot or payment notification as proof of payment.

If WCS introduces additional payment options for the event, these will be explained separately.

Private collectors and traders

The event is primarily intended for private collectors, but traders are welcome.

If you're attending in a professional or trading capacity, please make this clear when discussing a watch with another guest. Traders should bring no more than three watches.

Traders remain responsible for complying with all applicable laws and consumer obligations relating to their business and any watches they offer for sale.

If the event is oversubscribed, priority will be given to private collectors.

Ownership and authenticity

Guests should only offer watches and other items that they are legally entitled to sell or exchange.

If you have concerns about a watch, its ownership, authenticity or provenance, please speak to WCS before completing a transaction.

WCS reserves the right to prevent or terminate a transaction, or ask a guest to leave, where there are concerns about an item or the circumstances of a transaction.

After a transaction

Once a transaction has been completed, any issues or disputes should be resolved directly between the buyer and seller.

WCS is not responsible for the condition, authenticity, provenance or subsequent performance of watches sold or exchanged between guests, and does not provide a warranty or returns policy for these private transactions.

We encourage both parties to take a moment before completing a transaction to make sure they're happy with what they're buying or exchanging and with the terms they've agreed.

A final note

The most important thing is that everyone has a good afternoon.

Take your time, ask questions, talk watches, enjoy meeting other collectors and, most importantly, don't feel that you have to buy, sell or swap anything at all.
