1968 Vintage Omega Speedmaster 'Ed White' 321
An exciting opportunity to own an important piece of Omega history, combining the worlds of horology, motorsport and space exploration.
The Omega Speedmaster was originally produced in 1957 as a sports and racing chronograph, and quickly earned a reputation for unrivalled reliability and performance. By 1st June 1965, the Speedmaster was declared by NASA as “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions” after undergoing a series of rigorous tests.
We are pleased to present for sale this fine example of reference 105.003, dating from 1968. This watch is affectionately known as the “Ed White”, after the astronaut who wore one on the first spacewalk outside a spacecraft. The watch is also significant as the last Speedmaster to feature the distinctive straight-lug case and the legendary calibre 321 movement, celebrated not only for its functionality but also for its aesthetic appeal.
The 39mm steel case has wonderful proportions, and the distinctive tachymeter bezel features the Dot-Over-90, a small detail enjoyed by Speedmaster enthusiasts.
The original black dial is relatively simple and legible, with an applied Omega logo that just catches the light. The dial and hands, along with the case and bezel, are in a very good vintage condition showing signs of wear consistent with the watch’s age, while retaining an element of charm.
The movement has been tested and found to be running well, and as such we are happy to supply the watch with a six-month warranty. Also supplied is a period-correct Omega presentation box, and further details of the watch, having been checked by a vintage Omega specialist.
Fitted to the watch is the flat link bracelet, with the reference 1035 and dating to 1968. It is in a fair vintage condition, but should you wish to wear the watch on an alternative bracelet or strap, we would be happy to recommend some options.
