Grand Seiko 44GS 55th Anniversary 'Sakura-kakushi'

Grand Seiko are renowned for drawing design inspiration from Japanese nature, and this 44GS 55th Anniversary Edition does just that. The dial has been created to resemble the Japanese phenomenon “Sakura-kakushi” – a moment when late snow falls against the springtime cherry blossoms.
 
As you would expect, the textured finish of the dial is exquisite. The time-only display is devoid of any fuss, allowing the wearer to fully appreciate the quiet beauty of the blushing pink. Highly polished hands and indices continue to aid this play of light, and this is extended onto the case, where the Zaratsu polished steel features sharp angles against curved lines.
 
At 36.5mm this piece is extremely wearable and gives a nod to vintage Grand Seiko models. The watch is fitted with a steel bracelet for a sporty feel, however I think it also looks wonderful on a leather strap. Supplied is a purple Delugs leather strap which really brings out the colour of the dial, but I’ve also seen this watch worn on a tan leather strap, which looks great.
 
The steel case back is decorated with Grand Seiko’s lion, representing the strength of the brand. It also features the limited edition number of just 1,200 pieces. Powering the watch is Grand Seiko’s manual-wind calibre 9S64 movement, offering an impressive 72-hour power reserve.
