Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Duoface Day & Night

Introduced in 1931, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is one of the most recognisable designs in watchmaking. Originally created for polo players, its clever reversible case was designed to protect the crystal during a match. Over the years, the Reverso has remained a favourite with collectors, with various iterations maintaining that classic style. One version, the Duoface, is particularly popular, offering two dials for different looks, as well as a useful second time zone. We are pleased to present for sale this beautiful example of the Reverso Duoface Day & Night, reference 270.8.54.

The first (or Recto) dial is an elegant silver, decorated with a guilloché centre and Arabic numerals which sit on a delicately brushed silver finish. The second (or Verso) dial is dark grey, decorated with a Clous de Paris guilloché pattern. A 24-hour sub-dial is aligned with the words DAY and NIGHT, giving a nod to the versatility of this watch.

The polished steel rectangular case is a very wearable size, measuring 42mm x 26mm. The dressier aesthetic extends to the iconic three-lined gadroons, or stripes, above and below the dial. Within its reversible case, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s manual-winding Calibre 854 powers the two independent dials. With a power reserve of approximately 42 hours, it allows the second time zone to be adjusted using a discreet slider built into the case.

Adding to the appeal of this example is its steel beads-of-rice bracelet, which gives the watch a slightly different look. However, we also think it would suit any number of straps.

Dating from 1995, this watch is presented in excellent condition, having recently been refinished by JLC London (paperwork supplied). It also comes with its original box and instruction booklet, along with a guarantee card showing that it was retailed by Asprey on Bond Street, London. The movement has been tested and found to be running well, so the watch is supplied with our 6-month warranty.

A distinctive take on one of watchmaking’s great designs, this Reverso combines timeless Art Deco styling with the useful addition of a second time zone, all in a wonderfully wearable package.
