Laine Gelidus G3

Finnish watchmaker Torsti Laine has built a reputation for creating highly individual watches that combine traditional handcraft with a distinctly modern approach to design. The Gelidus 3, is a wonderful example of this philosophy, allowing the dial and movement to be customised in a way rarely seen from an independent watchmaker.
 
This example features a beautiful salmon-coloured dial, with a frosted outer ring surrounding a hand-turned Flamme guilloché centre. The undulating pattern catches the light differently across the dial, creating a remarkable sense of depth. Observatory hands have been heat-treated to a rich blue colour, and match the blue PVD plated white gold Breguet numerals. You may notice that the “8” has not been treated, which was customised for the watch’s original owner, along with a subtle engraving on a movement plate, making this watch all the more unique. 
 
The 40.5mm steel case has a combination of polished and brushed surfaces, with a smooth bezel not detracting from the dial. Instead, you can find decoration on the sides of the lugs, which feature a frosted recess. 
 
Turning the watch over, the LA18.1 movement has been beautifully finished to the same intricate level as the dial. Manually wound, it’s based on the the Unitas 6498 architecture but has been extensively modified by Laine. The classic rose-gold-coloured frosted finish is brought to life with hand-finished bevels and polished screw heads, and aesthetics aside, the movement offers an impressive 50-hour power reserve. 
 
The watch is suitably paired with a navy blue Alcantara strap made by Jean Rousseau, which complements the blue numerals and hands while allowing the salmon dial to remain the focus.
 
We are pleased to present this 2024 watch in excellent condition, showing very little signs of wear. It comes supplied with its original presentation box and guarantee card, and if further covered by our 6-month warranty. 
 
This is a lovely example of Laine's approach to independent watchmaking, where the combination of hand-turned guilloché, individually specified details and extensively finished movement makes it a joy to appreciate and wear.
