Piaget Tiger's Eye Ultra Thin
In the 1940’s and 1950’s Piaget were a relatively unknown watchmaker, creating understated timepieces from a workshop in the Swiss Jura mountains. However, things changed in the 1960’s and 1970’s when their designs became more daring, more stylish, and more opulent.
It comes as no surprise that this stunning Tiger’s Eye Ultra Thin has been dated by Piaget to 1971. The stone dial has a luxurious, silky texture, its brown and red bands interjected with flashes of orange as it catches the light. In some parts of the world, the Tiger’s Eye is believed to ward off evil spirits and soldiers wore them into battle.
The stone dial sits in a 25mm white gold case, its intricate decoration extending into the woven white gold bracelet, showcasing exquisite levels of quality and craftsmanship.
Perhaps the most impressive feat of craftsmanship is the 2mm Calibre 9P manual-wind movement that powers the watch. Originally created in 1957, the “Ultra Thin” is a concept that Piaget still proudly carries now, including modern versions of the movement in their current range.
Whilst we are seeing an increase in the popularity of stone-dial watches, it’s unlikely that you’ll find a vintage piece in such an exceptional condition as this. The case shows very little signs of wear and the movement is running well, having undergone a full service by Piaget in 2019. As such, it has the corresponding paperwork and a service box and pouch from Piaget.
