Rolex Explorer II "Swiss Only" 16570

We are excited to bring to the market this wonderful example of a Rolex Explorer II reference 16570 with the rarer “Swiss Only” dial. The special watch from early 2000, comes supplied as a full set including is original presentation box and paperwork, a dated and stamped Attestation, swing tags, and Rolex service records from 2019.
 
While many may associate the Rolex Explorer with tales of the first watch to reach the summit of Mount Everest, few likely know the back story behind the Explorer II. Far from being the second edition of the Explorer, it’s a different watch entirely and was created in 1971 for use by cave explorers. They would often work underground for many days at a time and in the darkness, they would lose any notion of day or night.
 
As such, the Explorer II features a fixed 24-hour bezel and a large, brightly coloured, luminous, arrow-shaped 24-hour hand. The watch also has a date function and offers 100m of water resistance.
 
This reference 16570 from 2000 is presented in excellent condition with only light signs of wear to its 40mm steel case. The white dial features the word “Swiss” at 6 o’clock, a design that was only produced for one year before being replaced with more commonplace “Swiss Made” dials.
 
Powering the watch is Rolex’s Calibre 3185 automatic movement, which has been tested and found to be running well. Furthermore, the watch has records of a full service carried out by Rolex in 2019.
 
The steel Oyster bracelet is stamped with the reference 78790 and is also in an excellent condition. It has hollow end pieces, which fit into the case’s drilled lugs.
 
This special watch, supplied as a full set, would make a wonderful addition to any watch enthusiast’s collection.
