Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600

The Sea-Dweller started life in 1967, becoming the first Rolex watch to feature a helium escape valve, designed for use by saturation divers who, at the time, were pushing the boundaries of underwater exploration. The Sea-Dweller went on to be tested in real-life conditions by NASA, the US Navy and the US Government.

Fast-forward 40 years and this reference 16600 has been adapted to withstand pressures of up 4,000ft / 1,220 meters. The 40mm steel case is well-proportioned, it’s predominantly brushed finish is highlighted with carefully polished facets.
 
Underneath an engraved case back is Rolex’s calibre 3135 automatic movement which is chronometer-certified and offers a 48-hour power reserve.

The black “SWISS MADE” dial was one of the first to feature Super-LumiNova, an upgrade from the previous tritium for legibility in low light. The absence of a cyclops over the date window keeps the dial balanced – which is something that is often brought up in the debate of the Submariner Date vs the Submariner No Date. Here you get the best of both worlds.

The rotating bezel features an aluminium insert, which in my opinion, has more character than the current ceramic ones. And in the case of this watch, is in an excellent condition.

This 2008 watch shows very little signs of wear, having recently been serviced and refinished by Rolex UK, and as such it comes with its service stickers still intact, and a two-year Rolex service warranty.

Also supplied is its original presentation box, guarantee card, leather card holder, Oyster booklet, Submariner booklet, guarantee booklet, chronometer booklet, swing tag, cloth, a 2019 Rolex service card and a 2024 Rolex service card and invoice.
