Sarpaneva Korona K0 Ruler of Water
Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva has many sources of inspiration, from nature and Finnish folk stories, to Harley-Davidson pinions. And this striking Korona K0 Ruler of Water incorporates all of the above.
The watchmaker’s first dive watch combines ISO specifications such as Superluminova and 300m of water resistance, with the watchmaker’s iconic pinion-shaped case and skeletonised dial. Furthermore, the watch features an internal rotating dive bezel, which is operated using the first position of the crown – the mainplate has been cleverly modified and reworked into what would have been a date disc.
The steel case measures 46mm in diameter, but don’t be put off but its large size. It not only makes the most of that impressive dial, but a relatively slim 11.2mm profile means that the watch sits low on the wrist. The case back is engraved with the words “One of a few”, referencing the low production numbers of these very special, hand-made watches. Underneath the case back, the watch is powered by an automatic, Swiss-made Soprod A10 movement.
In contrast to the elaborate dial, the watch is paired with a simple black rubber strap, yet it would suit any number of other straps.
