Toledano & Chan B/1 Lapis

It’s rare for a watch brand to enter the market and really shake up the industry. Many follow familiar design cues of a round case, black dial, maybe a dive bezel.
 
However, when design duo Phil Toledano and Alfred Chan set out to design a watch, it came from a shared appreciation of brutalist architecture. In fact, it was a window from the Met Breuer museum in New York, where artist and watch collector Toledano is based, that the idea for this B/1 model came from.
 
The asymmetric case is made from 904 stainless steel and measures 33.5mm across. The angled edges go from 9.10 to 10.40mm, and despite its bold shape, sits comfortably on the wrist. The geometric design extends seamlessly to the integrated bracelet.
 
The daring case is complemented by a striking lapis lazuli stone dial, the nature of which means that each of the 175 pieces will be subtly unique.
 
The case back remains intentionally simple, making reference to this limited edition, with “Toledano & Chan” along one side being the only other text on the watch.
 
Powering the watch is a Swiss-made Sellita SW100 automatic movement, chosen for its reliability and offering a 42-hour power reserve.
 
The design aesthetic doesn’t just stop with the watch – the presentation box has the same brutalist shape and is hand-made from concrete.
